Today I am another year older. I have been blessed to get to spend another year on earth with the people I love.
Every birthday I seem to spend time reflecting on the past year – the things I have done and the things I wanted to do, but didn’t. This year is different, though. I find myself not focusing on me, but rather on Him. Still reflecting, I am looking back over the last year and seeing an overview of all the things He has done for me. He has walked with me down this faithful road for 365 days. The truth is, He prepared this road for a long time ago.
Jeremiah 1:5 says “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.” He knew me even then. He knew what I would be like, how he could use me. He knew what my strengths would be and He knew all of my faults.
I am 46 now and still trying to figure myself out., but He knew me fully even then. Wow. This alone makes me stand in awe. This knowledge of me, and of you, can be found throughout the Bible. Sometimes we just need to take some time to reflect on that.
You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me. (Psalm 139:1-5)
