Ugly Crier, I Am With You

Here’s a secret to everyone except my husband and daughter – I am an ugly crier.

Seriously.  I am way on the other side of the spectrum from those characters in movies or on tv that have the lonely tear fall from a beautiful and perfectly made up face accompanied by soft sobs.

Nope. I am a full on ugly crier. It comes complete with puffy eyes, lots of tears, a blotchy red face, and of course, the snotty nose. My cries are also accompanied by loud, blubbering sobs.

Here’s the thing, though?  God doesn’t care. He wants us to come to Him fully human and dependent. He wants the good, the bad and the ugly … every element of humanity.

My fellow ugly criers, let the tears (and the nose) flow! Even in our brokenness, He sees our beauty.

Come broken. Come joyful. Come afraid. Come praising.

He is there to embrace us in it all.

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
