Listening for the Still, Small Voice

0917191322I love the sound of church bells ringing, especially when I’m not expecting to hear them.

I was recently exploring a city I had never been too – Indianapolis. I spotted an amazing monument and fountain. I headed towards it to get some pictures. That’s when I heard the bells. I didn’t even see the church because I was focused on the monument. When I heard the bells, I literally stopped moving. While people walked past me, some as tourists, others heading out for their lunch breaks, I stopped and listened.

They demanded my attention in a beautiful and not so subtle way. They always make me pause and listen intently to the sounds.

Isn’t that how God wants us to be with Him?  Many times we are in a hurry, walking in distraction, too busy to stop and listen.  What an important sound we could be missing – that still, small voice.

I challenge all of use to just stop and listen.

12 And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.[a] 1 Kings 19:12
