Singing a New Song

I sat upstairs spending my quiet time with God and His Word. The only sound I could hear was the wind blowing through the tree just outside the window. It whistled a tune of nature.

Then, I heard a new song. I heard a familiar voice, but one which I hadn’t heard sing in more than a few years.

She began to sing, recording vocals inside her room. Lyrics, rhythm and melody which had been left unheard and untouched inside her for so long were belted out passionately. Ear to the wall, I secretly soaked in the sound.

Years had gone by leaving her without a reason to sing.

Now, a new song had come from the depth of her very soul.

Its sound rang beautifully to this mother’s ears.

It was the music of healing, lyrics of perseverance, the melody of hope, and the notes of strength.

It was as if all of the prayers I have prayed for her over the years were being lifted up in a chorus and echoed back in love.

To me, it was hearing an angel sing.

Love and hope of our Father rang in my heart as I whispered above her song a reminder, one I had repeated countless times over the years:

He has a plan for her. Plans to prosper her and not to harm her. He plans to give her hope and a future.

She will never know the power and the impact of her singing behind the wall has had on me. She will never know how many prayers have been spoken over her, how many times this mother’s heart has broken in despair and ached for her.

But God knows.

And He has given her a reason to sing again.

This Mother’s Day I will never forget.
